Tips to Save a Tooth That is Knocked Out

The Pros And Cons Of Composite Resin Veneers

A veneer is a thin material that is shaped to look like the exterior of a teeth. It is adhered to the exterior of an imperfect tooth, helping to hide discoloration, chips, cracks or even small gaps. This allows you to keep the structural integrity of the tooth, while still altering its outward appearance. Dental veneers can be made from three different materials; porcelain, ceramic or composite resin. Learning the pros and cons of each material will help you determine which is the best option for your teeth. Here are a few of the pros and cons of composite resin veneers

The Cons of Composite Resin Veneers

  • Composite Resin is Susceptible to Staining

One of the biggest disadvantages to composite resin veneers is that they are susceptible to staining. If you are looking to whiten or brighten your smile by getting veneers, you may be disappointed to learn that your veneers can become stained in just a few years. Porcelain is less likely to stain, which makes it the best choice if you engage in activities that lead to tooth staining, such as drinking coffee, being a red wine drinker or smoking.

  • Composite Resin is Not as Long Lasting

The other disadvantage to composite resin veneers is that these types of veneers only have a lifespan of about 10 years. After that, they need to be replaced. On the flip side, porcelain veneers tend to last about 15 years. If you are looking for a long lasting option, composite resin may not be the best choice for you.

The Pros of Composite Resin Veneers

  • Composite Resin Veneers Can Be Completed in One Visit

One of the major advantages to composite resin veneers is that they can be constructed and installed in just one office visit. This is not the case with porcelain or ceramic veneers, which need to harden and be cured before they can be placed. If you want a new smile quickly, composite resin helps make it happen.

  • Composite Resin Veneers Are the Cheapest Option

The other major benefit to composite resin veneers is that they are the cheapest veneer option. If you are on a tight budget, but still want to alter your smile, composite resin veneers can help you get the smile of your dreams at a price you can afford.

If you are still unsure which option is the best for your smile, talk to a cosmetic dentist. They can help you determine which type of dental veneer is ideal for you based on your desired results and your budget.

About Me

Tips to Save a Tooth That is Knocked Out

I love horses, and my family has kept them for years. One day, I was getting onto the saddle of my favorite horse, and I had a bad accident. My foot slipped as I was getting on her, and I fell. Thankfully, I didn't suffer any major injuries other than a tooth that was knocked out of my mouth. I had a great friend who helped me save it. She rinsed the tooth off in milk, and she had me hold it in my mouth after that until we arrived at the emergency dentist. He was able to stick it right back in! He placed a temporary splint in my mouth to keep the tooth in place until it healed. I am happy to say my tooth is perfect now! I created this blog let others know they can save a tooth that is knocked out if they act fast!
