Tips to Save a Tooth That is Knocked Out

Tips To Follow For Two Common Dental Issues

Major tooth damage can be one of the most stressful problems that you can encounter. In addition to posing a major risk to your appearance, these issues can result in sizable amounts of pain. Luckily, there are emergency dentists that are able to help you treat these problems regardless of the time of day that they develop. Yet, many people have been fortunate enough to avoid needing emergency dental services for most of their lives, and this means that they may not be familiar what to do in a couple of common situations.

By following these two tips, you will be better prepared to address a couple of common dental emergencies.

Place Your Broken Or Knocked Out Tooth In A Container Of Milk

Unfortunately, it is common for individuals to accidentally break, chip or have a tooth knocked out of the mouth. When this happens, it is extremely important for you to get to a dentist as soon as possible to help give yourself the best chances for being able to save the tooth.

Sadly, it may take you several hours for you to be able to be seen by a dentist. Yet, if too much time passes, your tooth will not be able to be reached. To help by yourself additional time, you should place the tooth in a container that is filled with milk. The milk will provide enough nutrients and moisture to help keep the root of the tooth alive for a little longer, which can buy you the time you need to get it reattached.

Sanitize Your Infected Tooth As Soon As Possible

In addition to having teeth knocked out or cracked, abscesses are another common problem that many patients will encounter. Unfortunately, an abscessed tooth can pose a severe health risk to you. To treat this problem, your dentist will need to prescribe you antibiotics to help combat the infection, and in extreme cases, you will need to have the diseased tissue cut out.

Yet, you may notice this problem developing a couple of days before you are able to get to the dentist. In these instances, you will need to attempt to keep the tooth as sanitized as possible until you can seek treatment. By using a mouthwash periodically throughout the day, you can help slow the infection, but this is not a substitute for professional care because by much of the infection will be below the tissue.

Knowing how to address common dental emergencies can be essential to minimizing the risk of losing teeth. By understanding the benefits of placing a missing tooth in milk while you are traveling to the dentist and sanitizing infected teeth, you can help minimize the complications that these two common dental issues can cause.

About Me

Tips to Save a Tooth That is Knocked Out

I love horses, and my family has kept them for years. One day, I was getting onto the saddle of my favorite horse, and I had a bad accident. My foot slipped as I was getting on her, and I fell. Thankfully, I didn't suffer any major injuries other than a tooth that was knocked out of my mouth. I had a great friend who helped me save it. She rinsed the tooth off in milk, and she had me hold it in my mouth after that until we arrived at the emergency dentist. He was able to stick it right back in! He placed a temporary splint in my mouth to keep the tooth in place until it healed. I am happy to say my tooth is perfect now! I created this blog let others know they can save a tooth that is knocked out if they act fast!
