Tips to Save a Tooth That is Knocked Out

Two Questions Concerning Veneers Addressed

Cosmetic dental issues can be a source of trouble for both your overall appearance and your self-esteem. Unfortunately, it can be common for dental patients to have a limited understanding about their cosmetic dental treatment options. There are many patients that may not understand the benefits of opting to receive veneers. If this applies to you, the following information may help you to make informed choices for your dental health.

When Should You Consider Veneers?

Veneers are thin shells of porcelain or a composite material that are placed on the surface of your teeth. This can be done to protect the tooth from further damage as well as to correct any gaps or other cosmetic issues. Typically, veneers are used on patients that have misformed or cracked teeth, these prosthetics can also be used when a patient's enamel is visibly worn away. While veneers can restore your teeth and offer them limited protection against decay, it should be noted that you will still need to have your teeth regularly cleaned by a dentist. If food particles and plaque get trapped between the veneer and your tooth, it can cause serious decay to develop.

Are Veneers Durable?

Some individuals may be hesitant about choosing veneers because they are concerned that these coverings will not be durable. Luckily, this is far from the case, and these prosthetics are designed to last for many years before they need to be replaced. Unfortunately, it is still possible for these veneers to be damaged by strong blows to the mouth or grinding of the teeth. If you notice that one of your veneers has become cracked or loose, you should schedule an appointment with your dentist. As long as this issue is repaired fairly quickly, it may be possible for your dentist to simply apply more adhesive to the back of the veneer as opposed to needing to replace it.

Opting to have veneers installed can be a great way of ensuring that your smile looks its best despite your teeth having damage. Unfortunately, it can be difficult for patients to make the choice to receive veneers if they lack some important information about this dental treatment option. By making sure to understand the issues that veneers can address as well the fact that these prosthetics are highly durable, you will be in a stronger position to consider if this cosmetic procedure is right for your smile. Talk with a dentist, like those at Aaron G Birch, DDS PC and similar offices, for more information.

About Me

Tips to Save a Tooth That is Knocked Out

I love horses, and my family has kept them for years. One day, I was getting onto the saddle of my favorite horse, and I had a bad accident. My foot slipped as I was getting on her, and I fell. Thankfully, I didn't suffer any major injuries other than a tooth that was knocked out of my mouth. I had a great friend who helped me save it. She rinsed the tooth off in milk, and she had me hold it in my mouth after that until we arrived at the emergency dentist. He was able to stick it right back in! He placed a temporary splint in my mouth to keep the tooth in place until it healed. I am happy to say my tooth is perfect now! I created this blog let others know they can save a tooth that is knocked out if they act fast!
